Death Masks (The Dresden Files #5) by Jim Butcher

Death Masks (The Dresden Files #5) ~ Jim Butcher

This is an adult urban fantasy. (Rated NC-17 for the sexiness of it all)

4 out of 5 stars

Book Summary

Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But now he’s getting more than he bargained for.

A duel with the Red Court of Vampires’ champion, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards…

Professional hit men using Harry for target practice…

The missing Shroud of Turin…

A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified…

Not to mention the return of Harry’s ex-girlfriend Susan, who’s still struggling with her semivampiric nature. And who seems to have a new man in her life.

Some days, it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you’re charging.

My Reviews

I can’t say this is the best Harry Dresden novel I’ve read. But it certainly was entertaining and didn’t disappoint.

The characters are always so rich and well developed. Harry learns a bit more about himself in a way I didn’t think about. And maybe because it’s been quite some time since I read the last novel. We meet a couple more characters and get additional information on others. It was quite the eye opener.

As for the plot, without giving anything away, Harry is fighting for his life. But what else is new. There are a few curve balls and sad moments. There was a slow build up to some, a race to the finish in others and a really sexy moment for all us girls, JK. I’d have to say this book demonstrated Harry’s fight or flight response.

Overall, a satisfying read in this series. I will continue on. For those that haven’t read, it’s really good. It’s not knee deep in romance but it has its moments. It’s written by a guy about a guy and it’s always refreshing to get that perspective.

Audio Review

James Marsters, Mr. Sexy Vampire himself, Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series continues this series. He has become Harry Dresden for me and I love him doing this part. He is amazing at throwing his voice and doing the different characters. Can’t wait for more.

My book boyfriend. Harry (I really do like Michael too.)
