Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1) by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1) by Veronica Rossi
This is a young adult dystopian novel (Rated R)
♥♥♥♥♥
(Five Always Hearts)
Book Summary
WORLDS KEPT THEM APART.

DESTINY BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER.

Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.

Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.

If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.
My Review
It is refreshing to read a dystopian novel that isn’t depressing. Although the mood is somber, it doesn’t have that clawing feeling that brings you down.
There is an unwrapping to the story that is slow, yet it doesn’t read slow. There is plenty that is going on/action to capture and keep your attention. The world building enough to let you know what’s going on but allow for some mystery to keep you going. Don’t misinterpret. This isn’t Bloodlines or Delirium that dragged on for pages until you get to the good part.
What is also surprising is the romance that buds like a flower when you didn’t need it for the story to be good. There was enough going on, that the romance was extra and a cherry on top.
There is a cliffy at the end, so be prepared. But also note that, book two is already released. In fact, I’m listening to it now. So have no fear to start reading.
Audio Review
Bernadette Dunne Flagler - I didn’t like the smoker’s raspy voice at first. But damn it if she didn’t pull this on off with flying colors. That initial voice doesn’t carry through to the individual characters who sound youthful and distinctively male and female. Great job.
My Book Boyfriend is Perry.

Interview with Wolf

In walks the handsome Wolf…
Hi, I’m Terri. Thanks for taking the time to meet with me today. I just have a couple of questions. I know you are busy saving the world.
*chuckles* I’m never too busy to talk with you, Terri.
1. I’m curious about your decision to join the King’s army. Was it just out of duty or out of service for your father? Or maybe by chance it has something to do with Elisa?

It is tradition that the Chief of the Riders sends his youngest son to join the King’s army. When the Riders and the High King first came to peace, they decided to do this as a show of their continued alliance. Being near Elisa was just an added bonus *winks*

2. Tell me, what were your original feelings about being betrothed to a girl who fights as well as any man?

I’m completely comfortable with my masculinity that it doesn’t bother me at all if Elisa can shoot an arrow further than me. *laughs* I’ve always been proud of her, even when I found out at a young age we were set to be married. She’s exactly the type of girl I would have wished for had I been able to choose.

3. Sorry to go all TMZ on you, but how does it feel that Elisa is now set to marry another man?

Nothing is set in stone.

4. And now you have to fight alongside that man. Is that going to be a problem?

Sure won’t be a problem for me. I can see him being intimidated being around someone as talented and good looking as yours truly, but that’s his problem, not mine.

5. Lastly, what do you want the readers to know about you?
That I’m truly amazing, but I’m sure they already know that. *laughs* Honestly, I just want them to realize that sometimes people say and do things they don’t necessarily mean. Everyone deserves a chance to set things right.

Thanks for coming and answering my questions. (I feel like I might go all cougar on him. Can anyone tell me if he’s legal…)
CALLUM
Oh, now here is the man. God, what a man. Callum walks in and passes Wolf on the way giving the boy what almost sounds like a growl. Damn that sexy.

Hi, I’m Terri…… (what am I supposed to say). Oh, sorry, hahaha, didn’t mean to stare. Let’s get to this.
First Congratulations, I understand Rose is expecting…(damn lucky girl).

Thank you, we’re both very excited.
Okay… so, I just have a few questions. I know your time is limited. (Girl pokes her head into the studio. Her eyes spear me with a look that broach no words. That must be Rose.)***clears throat****
1.     I know you probably get asked this a lot, but Jameson is your brother. Why fight him for the throne? Is power really worth betraying your only brother?

I’m fighting for what is mine. I wish it could have worked out differently, but reality is what it is. Jameson and I have always had our issues. I don’t feel like it is a betrayal. My father is the one who betrayed me in the end.

2.     To win, would you kill your brother? Do you expect he would kill you to win as well?

There can only be one High King, and my brother is certainly not just going to hand the crown over. There’s your answer.

3.     If you had to choose a civilian life with Rose or the throne without Rose, what would you choose?

A life without Rose is no life at all. I would give up everything and anything to be with her.

4.     You suffered a blow to your campaign with the loss of one of your leaders. He was like a brother to you. How do you move on?

I take it a day at a time. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about him still. But life moves on, and I am forced to move with it. I can’t afford to mourn him. I can only continue with what we set in motion and hope I’m making him proud.

5.     In conclusion, what do you want the readers to know about you.

That I’m not bad or evil. I’m just trying to make things as they should be. And even though I’ve perhaps done things I’m not proud of, war is never easy or clean cut. We all do what we have to in order to come out the other side a victor.
Well, thanks for coming. I do appreciate your time.
Thank you for having me, Terri. *smiles*

See if the author is available. I just have a few questions. And someone see if we can get Aiden and Elisa in here for an interview. Chop, chop…

Hi Janelle, this will be quick.
You are a lucky girl to work with such stunning gentlemen. I just have a few quick questions. I hope you will indulge me.
Of course!
1.     When should we expect the final installment in this amazing series?

I’m hoping for fall of this year. I’m just about done writing it, but there is a lot I need to do before I can publish it. I’m working on it!!

2.     What projects do you have in the works? Do you plan on releasing anything else this year?

Probably not this year, no. I’m focusing on ending this series before I start anything new. There are two stories fighting in my head to get on paper, but I haven’t decided which one I’ll start next. Probably the spinoff from Eden I’ve been slowly setting up since book two. I have no idea when it will be ready though.

3.     And what is the one thing you want people to know about you?

Hmmm I don’t know. I guess for the readers, I just want them to know that I’m friendly and approachable lol I don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t contact me or ask me questions. I always love to hear from my readers, so I hope they know that!
Thanks again for stopping in for that impromptu interview. Have I told you lately I’m your number one fan???
Have I told you lately that I love you? ;) lol
Thanks again. Much love.
Thanks for having us!
Terri

Are you excited? I AM! ~ Frigid by J. Lynn

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Frigid will be available in digital formats on July 30th 2013

Print release of Frigid will be November 5th 2013

Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This is a young adult paranormal romance novel (Rated R)
 ♥♥♥♥
(Four Lightning Hearts)
Book Summary
No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
My Review
Jennifer Armentrout (JLA) is an imaginative writer. She knows how to write the swoon worthy guys that get your heart pumping. I was attracted to the series at first because it reminded me of Roswell. But this story certainly has its own legs and only has a bare glance of a reminder of that old tv series.
What’s great about this story is character growth. I think for me, Daemon has had the most change. He isn’t the asshole we met in book one, thank god. There is a whole side to him that we’ve come to meet as this story unfolds.
I was really excited in the relationship growth too, but I won’t go there, lol.
As far as the story, the book didn’t have as much action as in previous books. There was a lot of talking and planning. And that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. JLA has a way of filling pages that doesn’t leave you bored.
And wow, what a cliffy ending. It was the kind I least expected. I thought something totally different and I applaud her for that. I love to be surprised.
My book boyfriend Daemon. (as he’s already been established, no need to change it)

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare

This is a young adult paranomal fantasy novel (Rated PG-13)

 ♥♥♥♥
(Four Clockwork Hearts)

Book Summary

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy

Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.

My Review

I was so looking forward to this one. So imagine my disappointment when the book dragged on for nearly the first half. The change of POVs wasn’t helpful, because let’s be honest. I only longed for Will. Added to that, none of the POV changes seemed to be important. It felt like filler. (first half 3 stars)
Then, there was this beautiful scene between to characters. It was just amazing. I love honesty. I also love when character find out truths, it just seems so important to me. Not sure why. So this scene was pivotal in my enjoyment. And no Tessa wasn’t in the scene just in case you are thinking of something else, if you’ve read. (second half closer to 5 stars)
That was the beginning of the turning point to me. I didn’t seem to mind so much the change in POVs or the relationships held in balance. But darn it if my heart wasn’t torn out of my chest before getting there.
Then the second half of the book was moving. Again, each perspective seem to add more color to the story. My rose colored glasses shined with hope. And then the moment when everything comes together and the two become one kind of thing and then the rest of the book. Haha, I’m trying not to give spoilers. Ignore me. Ultimately it was good.
Recap. Book One, I was totally Team Jem. I didn’t get the Will connection. And I generally don’t change Teams. Rarely. Book Two, I was totally Team Will. Haha, guess Casse changed me. Take that, lol. Coming into Book Three I was Team Will. But, Casse Clare made it real hard not to love Jem.
With that said, I didn’t know what side of my heart would be ripped to shreds by the end. And I’m not sure how she did it, but she pulled off a spectacular ending. It wasn’t perfect. Better than Requiem, lol. But she did the ending in such a way that I wasn’t completely disappointed by Tessa’s decision.  How’s that for confusing you if you wanted to know who she picked, lol.
Okay, I’m still TEAM Will. I just am. I love Jem too though. Will is my top book boyfriend. He’s selfless and honorable in every way. The only other book boyfriends that come close to those qualities are Aiden (Covent series) and Dimitri (VA)
My book boyfriend Will.

STEEL AND LACE by Adriane Leigh COVER REVEAL & PREVIEW CHAPTER ONE!!!!!

OH HOW PRETTY!!!! AND LOOK AT THAT. ADRIANE LEIGH GAVE ME THE GREATEST HONOR BY INCLUDING A QUOTE FROM ME ON THE BACK!!!! I'M SO THRILLED AND HUMBLED.

"Carter and Eva's romance is much like lace- delicate, eye-catching, beautiful yet fragile, easily torn apart, yet strong enough to hold together."

The complete series will be available in one book!!!! YAY!

Haven't read it yet????

Check out Chapter One Below.
(and some eye candy)

"Eva, that dress was made for you.” Cate, my best friend and roommate said as we stepped out of the cab and made our way into the converted warehouse.
"Thanks, it's not too much?" We took the stairs up to the third floor rooftop deck overlooking Boston harbor.
"Definitely not too much. It's perfect. I'm sort of jealous.” Cate giggled. The dress was a bright white Carolina Herrera with peach and lavender Aztec accents down the center. It hit right at the knee and had a high neckline, which gave the dress a classy feel, but the fit was just snug enough to be sexy. My dark hair pulled back in a messy chignon, vintage chandelier earrings and a pair of nude Louboutin pumps completed the look.
We stepped onto the enclosed rooftop with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water. Cate was a Boston-based fashion designer with a popular boutique on Newbury Street, so she had gotten us the exclusive invite to celebrate the opening of a new store on her block.
Cate swiped two glasses of champagne from a waiter that was passing by and our eyes scanned the room assessing the crowd. I'd just taken my first sip of champagne when I noticed a guy across the room who seemed to command the attention of everyone around him. He had a statuesque model on his arm with long, blonde hair and eyes that I'm sure could shoot daggers. She had a protective hand on his forearm while he seemed to be ignoring her.
"Carter Morgan, 28-year-old sexy CEO, named youngest billionaire by Forbes, and a diehard modelizer,” Cate scoffed.
"Modelizer?" I laughed.
"He only dates models. That's Nikki Vilanova with him, model du jour.” Cate rolled her eyes. “She's always hanging on his arm."
I took another sip of my champagne and pondered him thoughtfully.
He had a defined jaw line and fine features with a hint of a five o’clock shadow. His hair was the color of toffee and tousled in that just-had-sex sort of way. He was without a doubt sexy, but when he turned his head and his eyes met mine, the air left my lungs. He had striking steel blue eyes that peered through dark eyelashes. His eyes had an air of danger that made him irresistible. After a few beats one thick eyebrow arched perfectly at me as if in question. With that I turned back to Cate and drank the rest of my champagne in one drink, pretending that Carter Morgan hadn't just swept the air from my lungs.
The night was winding down as I stood by the windows overlooking the harbor. Cate was off knocking elbows and networking with other people in the industry, and I was waiting for her to find her way back to me so we could head home. I'd only been in town a few days and had been killing myself trying to get unpacked. Staying out late on a Monday night didn't sound like a great way to start a busy week.
"Great view,” a deep voice murmured next to me. I jumped in shock and some champagne splashed over the side of my glass and landed on the stranger's gray herringbone suit. My eyes followed the lapel up to that ruggedly handsome face I had locked eyes with earlier.
"Oh my God, I am so sorry.” I put my glass down on the floor and fumbled with the clutch I had brought looking for a tissue to clean the mess. Carter Morgan looked down at his jacket and irritation flashed across his face before he put his hand on my arm.
"It's alright.” Carter's gaze met mine.
"I’m sorry, I'll pay to have it cleaned. If you send the bill to me. Here…" I bent to fumble in my clutch for something to write on. Carter Morgan had me flustered, and mortified, and rambling.
"I’ve got it. Really.” He squeezed my arm and his eyes flashed with an intensity I'd never seen before. My heart quickened and my palms tingled. He looked down and back up again, as if to inspect me with a critical eye.
"Carter Morgan.” He held out his hand.
"Evangeline Austin.” I took his hand in mine. He held it tightly, for a few extra beats than necessary, while his eyes seemed to penetrate to my soul. The air crackled with energy between us and I wondered if he felt it too. I didn't want to let go of his hand. I wanted to run my fingers through his perfectly tousled hair. I wanted to place my other hand along the sharp angle of his jaw and feel the stubble beneath my fingertips.
"Hey Eva, are you ready? Everyone who's anyone has come and gone.” Cate bounced up to me and then froze in her tracks when she spotted Carter and my hands locked. "Uh… hi, I'm Cate Evans.” She stretched her hand out to Carter. His eyes flicked away from mine and he nodded in her direction.
"Well Evangeline, despite that fact that you may have ruined my favorite suit, I hope to see you again.” Carter flashed me a half smile. “Ms. Evans.” He nodded at Cate and then he dropped my hand and with that Carter Morgan was gone. I was left standing dumbstruck, my heart pounding furiously in my chest.
"Well, that was intense.” Cate turned to follow him with her eyes.
"Yeah.” the breath I was holding whooshed out of my chest. I felt part relief that he was gone and I could breathe again, and a yearning for him to return and live inside the sparks of energy that bounced between us.
"So what did he say?" Cate looked at me.
"Nothing.” I frowned, trying to discern what had just happened.
"Nothing?" Cate raised an eyebrow at me as if I were withholding information.
"Really, nothing. His name. He said that it was a great view. Really, nothing.” My eyes shifted to the path he'd taken in retreat.
"Well, he is something isn't he?" Cate said wistfully.
"That he is.” I shook off the intense energy he seemed to leave behind. "Ready?" I looped my arm in Cate's and we headed for the door and the cool New England night beyond.
Carter anyone???

My Review

Some authors’ publish books like their hot. But this author puts out one to two books a year, but only one per series. I have to say the wait was well worth it.

This book restored my faith in good writing and storytelling. It was amazing on every level and hey, there wasn’t much in the way of sex either, lol.

I love the characters and the banter between them. She’s created a cast of main players and sub characters that are all brought to life in a way that makes you get attached to them. So much when something bad happens, you are emotionally injured.

I absolutely adore Adam. He is an alpha male through and through and he is a book boyfriend for the ages. I miss Samuel. L But you can’t have it all.

And Mercy rocks. Really rocks. I like everything about her.

If you haven’t read this series, you are missing out. Really good. All books are 4s and 5s. Well worth a read.

Audio Review
Lorelei King is awesome. Although I first listened to her through this series. I’ve been listening to her a lot lately when I found Darynda Jones’s series. I thought it would be hard to not think of those books while listening. And although at first I did, I quickly got caught up in this story and all thoughts of any other books.

My book boyfriend Adam.

Reckless (Thoughtless #3) by S.C. Stephens

Reckless (Thoughtless #3) by S.C. Stephens

This is a contemporary romance/erotica novel (Rated NC-17)

♥♥♥♥
(Four Rock On Hearts)

Book Summary

Can love survive when life gets Reckless?

When the band hits it big, Kiera and Kellan must ask themselves: Can their love for each other survive the constant pressures of superstardom? The friendships they've formed, the new family they've found, and the history they've forged will all play a part in helping them navigate the turbulent waters of the band's exploding popularity. A greedy executive hell-bent on success, a declining pop star looking for an edge, and a media circus that twists lies into truths are just some of the obstacles the lovers will have to overcome if they are going to remain together. Fame comes with a price-but will it cost Kiera and Kellan everything?

My Review
Why didn’t I love this book as much as everyone else? Hmm, good question. I think partly due to the audio version, partly because I thought it was way too long, and partly because of Kiera.
This may get a tiny bit spoilery so I can explain.
First Kiera. Although I could understand her reasons for wanting to remain out of the spotlight, I thought that was a bit naive of her and selfish. When it was clearly bothering Kellen, she didn’t seem to care. It was all about her. And in the end, it came out anyway. DUH. So, I thought that was a bit unrealistic or a character flaw. *weights hands out to the side* Not sure which but it bugged me. I think they should have come clean sooner. It was like a lot of the “story conflict” was based on this point.
Then, there were so many unnecessary parts. Clearly if they fixed above, a lot could have been cut out and focus placed on other things.
And honestly, it still bugs me about Denny. HE’s such a great guy and is it unrealistic that he would come to accept things. Maybe, but it showed what a wonderful guy he was.
Then, Siena, really. Really, after everything, Kiera has sympathy for her.
I guess overall, it was a little too feel good and less realistic. I must admit it was nice that everything tied up in a bow, but I was left missing something. Not sure what it was. I thought the most real parts were with Griffin.
Audio Review
Revekkah Ross did an okay job. I really loved her accents for Denny and his girl. However, I think that part of the reason I found this book loonnnngggg was due to the narration. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t in my top ten.
Anyway, my book boyfriend Kellen.
